A new Center on Early Childhood Development in the Transforming Learning Accelerator (TLA) in the GSE seeks a full time Research Data Analyst 2 to join our team. The research data analyst will manage and analyze large amounts of data collected through the RAPID Survey Project, including performing statistical analysis and preparing reports for publication.

The RAPID Survey Project is a program of two national surveys of households with children under age 6 and the childcare workforce. Under the direction of Dr. Philip Fisher, RAPID administers monthly surveys on a rapid-cycle schedule, and has collected data from more than 13,000 households and 2,600 childcare providers in all 50 states. The survey and data are used to inform policy, advocacy, academic, and practitioner audiences on the experiences, challenges, and strengths of caregivers of young children and providers beyond those immediately related to the pandemic, to support data-driven policies and programs that equitably and effectively serve families, providers and young children.

RAPID is currently applying its rapid-cycle survey development, data collection and data dissemination processes in partnership with communities across the US. RAPID partners may represent neighborhoods, cities, counties, states and organizations. This position is overseen by the RAPID program director and the RAPID methodologist. The person in this position can work remotely.

What You’ll Do:

Independently and with minimal supervision, the Research Data Analyst 2 will perform rapid-cycle statistical analyses, create insightful data visualizations, and prepare statistical reports using data collected through the RAPID surveys. These surveys include the monthly household surveys, childcare provider surveys, and surveys distributed through RAPID partners. The Research Data Analyst 2 will also be involved in preparing data dissemination products, such as fact sheets and data briefs, for publication.

Core duties will include:

  • Prioritize and extract data from a variety of sources such as notes and survey results, and maintain its accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine additional data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Design and customize reports based upon data in the database. Oversee and monitor regulatory compliance for utilization of the data.
  • Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root cause for data problems or justify solutions to be implemented by others.
  • Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs and tables for publication and presentation.
  • Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys.
  • Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

What You’ll Bring:

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge in gathering, compiling, and analyzing survey data using statistical methods, proficiency in statistical software packages, and the ability to create insightful data visualizations and prepare statistical reports. Some additional requirements include:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor`s degree and three years or relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Advanced degree in psychology, education, developmental science, statistics, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field of social science
  • Relevant experience working with complex survey data
  • Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Substantial experience with statistical software packages (R, SPSS, etc.)
  • Experience in advanced statistics, research methodology, and survey data analyses in social science fields (e.g., psychology, developmental science, education)
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace, Dropbox)
  • Ability to work effectively with a geographically distributed team
  • Ability to effectively communicate with both technical research team and non-technical RAPID advisors.
