Required Qualifications (please document on the resume):

  • Bachelor`s degree with at least 6 years of related experience OR a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in SQL and database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL / MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc, or AWS/Azure equivalents.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines with administrators, faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of programs and backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Tableau and/or PowerBI.

Position Overview:

The University of Minnesota, University Data and Institutional Reporting (UDIR) group is seeking a Data Analyst. This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in helping the university achieve its mission of research, education, and outreach. This position is responsible for designing, building, and delivering data, and reporting solutions for a variety of highly-complex, mission-critical projects within UDIR’s portfolio. This position has a particular focus on student data-related topics including but not limited to enrolled student populations/characteristics, course and curriculum analysis, retention and graduation, pre-enrollment (i.e., admissions, orientation), post-collegiate outcomes, and student finance.

UDIR’s portfolio includes a wide range of data and reporting activities including the production of official data required for the University’s compliance reporting efforts (e.g. IPEDS, NCAA, MN OHE, HLC), related reporting dashboards (e.g., decision support for university leadership, ad hoc data requests, and ensuring the integrity of official institutional data.

Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000, DOQ

Job responsibilities include:

40% - Ad Hoc Data Requests

  • Provide reporting at the request of senior leaders of the University in a timely manner
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to internal and external audiences
  • Prepare and submit institutional and campus reports that includes admissions, student enrollment, student financial aid, and general student subject areas
  • Develop data and reporting solutions for ad hoc data requests that involves new metrics or are not well defined or are considered advanced data requests

30% - High Visibility Reports and Surveys

  • Responsible for student-related reporting around enrollment, admissions, and general student related high visibility reports
  • Complete selected student related Association of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE) survey items

20% - Critical Reports, Projects and Production Jobs

  • Serve as primary analyst or, in collaboration with the primary analyst, serve as the secondary analyst on selected critical reports and production jobs to include admissions, student enrollment, and retention/graduation reporting
  • Assist in creating snapshots used to produce official University data, reporting and statistics for student subject areas as well as Federal IPEDS and other external reporting
  • Participate and cooperate with data exchange consortia to which the University belongs

10% - Special Projects

  • Participate in special projects that may include projects such as Post Collegiate Outcomes, the Systemwide Strategic Plan, the Accountability report, and others as needed
  • Participates in advancing the operational, and strategic direction of the office that may include support of the development and delivery of UDIR Tableau dashboards
  • Employ emerging data science techniques and methods to activate new and large data sets of importance to the University
