The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is investing heavily in the Applied Analytics team and is looking to fill a critical role that will provide audience insights to the Company to support critical business decisions and help guide strategy. The Jr. Data Analyst will work the Applied Analytics team and stakeholders to build reusable data solutions that support stakeholders metrics and reporting needs. This position will also create new reports using Power BI, present and communicate insights to stakeholders, become familiar with big data environments, and take on ad hoc projects as needed.
Job Duties and Job Tasks

The Jr. Data Analyst position will help influence decisions by supporting and helping to inspire a data-driven analytics culture with the Applied Analytics team. This position will require the ability to work both independently and within a team on analytical projects, and the undertaking of analysis activities to deliver insights in accordance with stakeholder needs and conforming to agreed standard, as well as understanding and using appropriate methods, tools, and applications to demonstrate a logical and organized approach to work.

Primary responsibilities

• Develops an understanding for the data warehouse structure, writes and maintains complex SQL queries, and works with stakeholders to gather data and requirements for reporting. 25%
• Supports and understands data from various departments and databases to build reusable data solutions that support different departments needs. 20%
• Designs and develops Power BI reporting, maintains a clean reporting environment, and ensures data accuracy, data security, report access and distribution. 25%
• Presents insights and recommendations to partners and stakeholders, ensures accuracy of results produced as a result of data analysis, and maintains communication with stakeholders and upkeep of business-critical insights. 20%
• Takes on ad hoc projects from different departments and supports team with business-critical projects as needed. 10%

Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Data Sciences, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Computer Science, etc.)

Experience

• Graduates with internships preferred as would be 1 or more years of experience.

Additional Requirements

• Experience in multiple coding languages and platforms (SQL, Python, R, DAX, etc.)
• Proven conceptual understanding of relational data stores, big data environments, transactional systems, and process flows
• Excellent communication skills required. Ability to successfully comprehend and communicate advanced analytics, business insights, and resulting implications to non-technical business partners.
• Experience using cloud computing to build analytics applications. AWS experience a plus.
• Be a self-sufficient, self-starter, having worked effectively on your own or within a small team
