Machine Learning Intern

  • Currently working towards a bachelor’s degree with a graduation date between June 2021 and June 2022
  • Ability to perform the following task, with or without reasonable accommodation:
o Stand and walk for up to 12 hours
o Walking in/around the warehouse with great frequency; many facilities are over a quarter mile in length
o Access all areas of building by ascending and descending ladders, stairs, gangways safely
o Regular bend, lift, stretch, and reach below the waist and above the head
o Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds each
  • Work weekends, holidays, and/or overnight shifts and overtime as required
As a data scientist, you will use your experience to initiate the design, development, execution and implementation of scientific research projects. Working closely with fellow data scientists and product managers, you will use your experience in mathematical modeling, statistics and simulation to design models of new policies, simulate their performance, and evaluate their benefits and impacts to cost, reliability, and speed of our fulfillment network.

Our teams are looking for experience in network and combinatorial optimization, algorithms, data structures, statistics, and/or machine learning. This position requires superior analytical thinking, and ability to apply their technical and statistical knowledge to identify opportunities for real world applications. You should be able to mine and analyze large data, and be able to use necessary programming and statistical analysis software/tools to do so.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive resolution for an intern project by owning and deep diving for data to support a recommendation
  • Assist in designing, building, improving, and innovating order fulfillment infrastructure throughout the large-scale supply chain network within Amazon’s North America Customer Fulfillment Project Engineering Team
  • Support management, design, and implementation of medium scope integrated automation projects with system elements such as high speed sortation, multiple conveyors, package lines, and/or robotic work cells
  • Guide and coordinate design and execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout
  • Develop and manage budget and contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing
  • Direct system commissioning and predefined testing activities, including administering the plan, interpreting statuses and reporting results
  • Coordinate with local site management to ensure proper operator training, procedural compliance, maintenance and safety practices are followed for new and existing equipment
  • Thoroughly document/investigate FC change requests and provide recommendations
  • Inspect facilities in accordance with corporate standards and procedures relating to material handling, processing and storage
. Must be eligible and available for 3-month internship between May/June - July/August for full-time work (40h / week)

  • Exprience in at least one of the related science disciplines (Discrete Event Simulation, Optimization – LP/MIP, Statistics, Machine Learning, NLP, CV, Process Mining)
. Experience with Statistical/mathematical programming software packages (e.g., R, SPSS, CPLEX, Gurobi or Xpress etc.) or Simulation Modeling tools (FlexSim, Anylogic, etc.)
  • Fluency in data visualization tools (QuickSight, Tableau, etc.)
