As a Data Scientist, you will be a key member of the Data Science team, reporting to the Director of Data Science in Retiree Health Solutions. You will develop and deploy advanced analytical/machine learning/AI solutions under the guidance of senior team members to directly address business needs. Using Python, R, and/or other languages, you will design and implement predictive/machine learning models in a cloud-based environment for data sets that may be complex, large-scale, and/or longitudinal. You will interact directly with business owners and have significant opportunities to affect solution and modelling designs.

What You’ll Do:

• With some mentorship, a data scientist in this role will typically:
• Work with business owners and clients to define modelling requirements and success criteria.
• Identify relevant data sources and acquisition methods, working with our legal team to insure Alight’s requirements for privacy and regulatory compliance are met.
• Create all Statistical/Machine Learning/AI solutions to industrial standards, ensuring their effective automation and operation.
• Assist in checking and testing other’s work and developing coding standards.
• Mentor more junior/newer team members.
• Promote standards for Python/R and all other ML-related frameworks and languages.
• Prepare a clear, non-technical readout of the results for non-technical business owners.
• Collaborate with local engineering teams to deploy models into cloud native services and integrate with existing models.
• Assist with status reporting to stakeholders.
• Track industry trends and introduce forward-looking analytic product/service ideas.
• Build a collaborative team environment with Alight colleagues within and across business lines.
• Promote respect and values of Alight within team and serve as role model for corporate responsibility.

What you’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Data Management, or Information Technology; OR 4 years relevant analytical/data governance experience
• 2+ years of (business or graduate-level academic) experience with key modelling techniques (e.g., decision trees, multivariate and logistic regression, kNN, kMeans, NLP, Neural Networks)
• 2+ years of (business or graduate-level academic) experience implementing and deploying using one of the common open-source systems (R, Python, Scala, etc.).
• Ability to resolve data inconsistencies and validate and clean data.
• Inquisitive – ability to dig into new and challenging datasets, uncovering pertinent and business relevant information.
• Analytical mind-set – problem-solving through analytical techniques that meet rigorous industry standards.
• Strong communicator – articulating the commercial value of data and analytics to senior stakeholders/clients (internal & external) through data visualization and storytelling.

What We Would Like:

• Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or equivalent quantitative field (Masters or PhD preferred).
• Deep Learning, Hadoop, Spark, AWS.
• Data analysis applied statistics or econometrics in a business environment.
• Agile or lean development practices
