We are looking for a data migration engineer to join our data migration team. You will be leading data migration projects end to end, working closely with our North American and UK implementation teams to get new clients live on Spektrix with their historic data intact.

Our import process is handled by two C#/.NET tools. The Data Transformer uses SQL to query foreign databases and converts the data into intermediate objects that our Data Importer understands and loads to the relevant data store. You will be modifying the Data Transformer to deliver import projects based on client requirements. You will also be developing new functionality, improving efficiency and maintaining data integrity through improving the Data Importer.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be taking ownership of existing tools, as well as building from scratch when we come across systems we’ve never migrated from before.

You’ll need to quickly get your head around the foreign data sets you’re provided with and use your problem-solving skills to work out how to transform these into the Spektrix data model.

You’ll work collaboratively with all stakeholders, including clients and our business team, to balance the client’s needs with delivering the project on time. Your responsibility will be understanding clients requirements and this will occasionally require visiting them in person.

You will lead our data migration projects, working closely with key stakeholders to ensure that the project is delivered to a high standard.

What we`re looking for

You will have strong SQL skills, whether that is from SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or Postgres. Preferably with experience migrating data between different systems, platforms and database schemas. You will be able to apply this knowledge to interrogate databases and create complex performant queries.

You will be comfortable with building and maintaining tools using an Object-oriented language. You will have experience with identifying potential improvements and know how to discuss the positives and negatives of changes.

You will have the ability to identify new features and be able to take that idea from inception to completion.

You can quickly analyse and interpret unfamiliar data models so that you can accurately extract relevant data. You will have experience with creating mappings between vastly different implementations of the same concept.

You will enjoy running projects from inception to delivery and believe the best way to serve clients is by getting close to them. You will have had experience in leading projects, managing clients, stakeholders and colleagues.

You are a great communicator, able to explain complex processes both verbally and in writing. You have experience writing process or specification documentation.

You have the ability to prioritise your workload to meet changing circumstances and sometimes stretching deadlines. You are able to concisely and efficiently communicate project progress and risks. You know who your key stakeholders are and what information they need.

You will have experience in working with multi-regional colleagues, understand the difficulties that come with being split across different time zones and have the ability to minimise the impact of this to delivery.

Remote Working Policy

Our offices are currently only open part time due to the Covid-19 pandemic through to April 2022. When it’s safe to do so, we will fully reopen our offices and adopt a hybrid work model. We are still working out exactly how this will work but for now we are asking people to assume around 20% of their time will be in one of our offices.

This means you will need a solid working from home setup. We’ll provide reasonable support and all the hardware you need to get started, but we do require that you have the following already in place:
