Data Analyst

Position Overview:
Nationwide IT Services (NIS) is seeking an experienced Data Analyst to assist our government client with technical/documentation support for the agency`s new Dremio cloud-based data lakehouse. The Data Analyst will be tasked with working alongside technical and non-technical team members with adoption of this emerging technology as well as maintain databases/related data lake sources and identify improvement opportunities. The Data Analyst will report directly to the Program Manager and provide weekly reports on tasks/deliverables and risks/issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support scientists, project managers, science support staff (admin/finance) in evangelizing, onboarding, and adopting a cloud data lakehouse, i.e., Dremio
  • Maintain database and data lake sources, schemas, and extract, transform/load (ETL) processes using AWS Lambda, Python, Dremio, and REST APIs
  • Draft SQL queries for data analytics (SELECT, CREATE TABLE AS) and user-friendly data dictionary to support non-native SQL query authors
  • Develop, test, and implement new joins, transformations, and optimizations between datasets
  • Help maintain and troubleshoot customer-facing connections to the data lake in Tableau, Jupyter, RStudio, Oracle Application Express, and other client tools
  • Apply master data management techniques to implement a "no copy" or "low copy" data governance strategy while guaranteeing efficient data access and fast query times
  • Adopt Infrastructure as Code methods in accordance with requirements, i.e., using GitLab runners to orchestrate AWS Lambda (serverless functions), EventBridge (rules), CloudWatch (logs and alerts), and StackFormation (Infrastructure as Code) updates
Job Qualifications:
  • Customer service experience supporting scientific and/or business data analysts in adopting a cloud data lake architecture developed using Dremio or similar products
  • Experience deploying cloud data lakes, data warehouses, data marts, or data catalogs such as Dremio SQL (ANSI92, Oracle PL/SQL, and/or PostgreSQL dialects)
  • Data integration and data engineering methods
  • Tableau Desktop and Server or similar client tools with a willingness to learn Tableau
  • Python, or other language(s) such as R, C#, Java and a willingness to learn Python
  • Experience using RESTful APIs for data operations automation and orchestration
  • Cloud (AWS or Azure) with an interest in learning AWS
  • Familiarity with git, GitLab runners, batch and event-based triggers, or related CI/CD methods
