Job Summary and Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

The Data Analyst II is responsible for assisting with the development of technical requirements and programming logic for new clinical and operational process metrics. This role will work with COG Data Organization leadership to partner with clinical stakeholders by sourcing and aligning data assets to clinical performance improvement initiatives. The Data Analyst II role must understand database architecture and ETL concepts to ensure alignment with IT stakeholders and enterprise data management standards. The analyst must be able to take direction for tactically appropriate data and information models, possess superior analytical and SQL query skills, have excellent communication skills [both written and verbal], possess servant abilities, have relationship building skills, portray a professional presence, and possess a proven track record of delivering high quality analytics results.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Function as a domain expert for clinical operations data.
  • Contributes to the development of technical requirements/programming logic for clinical and operational data metrics and visualizations
  • Partners with key clinical stakeholders to ensure development of new metrics meet the needs of clinical performance improvement initiatives
  • Query various databases using advanced SQL.Database platforms include Teradata, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.
  • Model complex datasets based on data visualization requirements or platform-specific needs i.e. Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau, Google Looker, Web, etc.
  • Accurately interpret and translate clinical business requirements into technical requirements
  • Participates in QA process by performing testing on SQL queries to ensure accuracy
  • Effectively communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with other COG Data Organization team members, clinical stakeholders and IT stakeholders
  • Collaborate with ITG in the joint development of data products
  • Responsible for compliance with Internal Audit standards for information protection and business processes
  • Inform data quality improvement initiatives in partnership with ITG and Data Quality Management teams
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”
  • 2-5 years as data analyst in a complex environment
  • 1-2 years of experience in nursing data domain
  • Experienced with database management systems and querying languages, such as SQL
  • Proficient in BI platform development, such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, etc.
  • HCA-based systems experience is a plus


  • Possesses a high level of accuracy and attention to detail (e.g. CPA, Accountant)
    • Possesses strong organizational and process analysis skills
    • Excellent presentation and communication skills [verbal and written] are essential
    • Experience with multiple database management technologies, including but not limited to Teradata, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.
    • Experience with database management systems and querying languages, such as SQL
    • Results-oriented individual with a demonstrated strong commitment and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
    • Possesses interpersonal skills to work in a high profile and fast paced team environment
    • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects within deadlines
    • Proven ability to work in a team environment or independently as needed
    • A comfort, or even preference, for an environment of discovery and uncertainty
    • Commitment to using all HCA resources wisely and efficiently to serve the needs of the HCA Mission
