We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team on a 6-month fixed term contract

This is a remote role and you can be based anywhere in the UK although there will be an infrequent travel requirement to either Bristol or Leeds

As a Data Engineer it will be your job to optimise the Azure data warehouse environment that underpins the wider Data & Analytics team and ensure it continually develops to be suit the needs of the business.

Main Duties

  • Innovate through exploration, benchmarking, making recommendations, and implementing big data technologies for platforms.
  • Development and implementation of scripts for database maintenance, monitoring, performance tuning etc
  • Ensure the Azure data warehouse is optimised to meet business requirements.
  • Data governance is key – accuracy and lineage of data must be maintained.
  • Research and investigate alternative tools and techniques for improving the offering
  • Seek out new sources of data to enhance the team`s offering
  • Support the ongoing development of other members of the Data & Analytics team through sharing best practice and newly developed analytical techniques
  • Respond to adhoc requests from business managers and other key stakeholders

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Excellent SQL & PowerShell skills and a strong desire to master new and emerging technologies.
  • Expert in Azure data warehouse administration and optimisation, including efficient scaling and resource class management.
  • Strong understanding of Azure Data Factories & Functions.
  • Expert in data architecture, modelling and structuring solutions to suit the needs of the business – and query tuning of existing ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience working with APIs to collect and manipulate data.
  • Demonstrable experience working with large and complex data sets as well as experience analyzing volumes of data.
  • Comfortable working with semi-structured data formats.
  • Programming experience in Python, R or similar would be beneficial.
  • Able to document your work to a high standard so others can pick it up and evolve on it to their needs.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to effectively articulate reasoning behind decisions made.
  • Degree educated in a numeric, scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
