The Agility Center of Excellence continually evolves American Express’ software development operating model by defining and scaling Agile standards and best practices, including roles, responsibilities, processes, and tools across Product and Engineering teams. Working with leaders and their teams, the Agility COE develops and implements Agile ways of working across all phases of the product development and delivery lifecycle- from product strategy and portfolio planning to execution. The COE drives change with a broad toolkit that includes design thinking, process transformation, Agile trainings, embedded Agile coaching, and learning activities such as the Product Speaker series.

Data Scientist (B35), Agility COE, Product Inclusion

As Data Scientist, Agility COE, Product Inclusion you will work to integrate inclusion at key points in the American Express product delivery lifecycle and equip the company with resources to succeed. You will use your knowledge of statistics and machine learning methods for data analysis, validation, and visualization. You will apply advanced analytics techniques to develop models to support product inclusion decision making, help build and develop our tools, and contribute towards product research and design.

This role will report to the Director of Product Inclusion, Agility COE with main responsibilities including:

As Data Scientist (B35), Agility COE, Product Inclusion you will:

  • Design, develop and implement models for emerging opportunities for Product Inclusion
  • Communicate model algorithms and results to senior leaders and business partners
  • R&D on new machine learning techniques and their applications in Product Inclusion
  • Conduct exploratory analysis on large datasets to determine whether you can draw conclusions or actionable insight
  • Have responsibility in data science strategic decisions for client work as well as for new product development, evaluating new and emerging technologies
  • Communicate results of technical research with a non-technical audience, both visually and verbally
  • BSc or equivalent in a quantitative discipline. E.g. Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science
  • Hands-on experience in machine learning algorithm development or application
  • Experience in large data processing and handling.
  • Skilled with statistical programming languages, including experience in manipulation of large datasets with one or more of R, MATLAB, Python (willingness to learn new languages as required for the role)
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL
  • Familiarity with linear algebra, statistics, and machine learning concepts such as regression, clustering analysis, neural networks, etc.
  • Experience using data mining techniques in a real-life application
  • Data modeling, visualization, analysis, and warehousing experience
  • Solid conceptual understanding of data architecture and pipeline design
  • Familiarity with credit card industry is a plus
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex algorithm and results to business partners in simple terms
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and also be a team player

This position may be located in New York or Phoenix and may travel up to 10%
