The Data Engineer`s role is to know and understand the business logic required to turn a complex idea into a sustainable value add process as a member of the CAE Healthcare Data and Analytics team. The Data Engineer will help ensure the data is usable and viable with near real-time reporting to deliver solutions to the problems presented. Over time the Data Engineer will become an expert of systems. This position will work on cutting edge data technology by being a key contributor on CAE’s Azure Data Lake and analytics initiatives. On this team the Data Engineer will get the chance to be the expert of data, collaborating with various teams and functional resources, using all the skills in order to exploit data to drive the business forward. The Engineer will help push the envelope of what is possible in the big data space for streaming live data into a data lake; moving data from raw replication, to cleansed, to an aggregated solution for the analytics team to leverage.

This is a new role to the organization and will require a seasoned professional that can support regularly changing goals and objectives, along with potential ambiguity as the role is evolved based on the individuals experience and skillset. The ideal candidate will not only represent all things Data Engineering; however, also come with skillsets to build automation and analytics within the organization.


  • Support an emerging team of developers and business analysts by bringing in past experiences to help further mature the team’s skillset within data engineering, automation, and analytics.
  • Collaborate within and between business units with functional point of contacts, as well as technical subject matter experts
  • Build data & analytics solutions in Microsoft Azure – architect and design technical solutions to obtain, process, store and provide insights based on the processed data
  • Develop within existing designs of various solutions in Microsoft Azure environment to help the business get valuable insights
  • Suggest and implement architecture improvements
  • Work on automation and optimization of internal processes in Azure
  • Influence the future of these new technologies and the ways in which CAE uses them
  • Work with multifunctional and multinational teams within and outside of CAE
  • Focus on key business cases development within Data & Analytics and Azure
  • Manage agile projects using cloud and hybrid solutions
  • Perform the extraction, transformations and loading from the source systems and the data lake to the analytics products.
  • Enhance data maturity and integration for CAE products by interacting with operations to standardize the core value-add functionality, enabling a multiplier effect.
  • A specialist of data integration and analytics, bringing the required qualitative and quantitative skills to enable all teams to make data driven decisions.
  • Participate in scrum project meetings and update stories using project management tools


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 6+ years in a ETL and Analytics oriented role
  • 5+ years of work experience in data management disciplines, including data integration, modelling, and optimization
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with relational SQL databases
  • 3+ years of object-oriented/object function scripting languages such as Python or R
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure data services including Data Lake, Data Factory, and Data Pipelines
  • 3+ years of experience with PowerBI
  • 2+ year of experience with Microsoft Power Platform
  • Experience automating processes using tools such as Ruby, Python, PowerShell, C#, SSIS, ADF, etc.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps
  • Experience in data governance
  • Strong ability to develop in an environment undergoing transformation
  • Strong ability to share knowledge, coach, and train others
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and demonstrate innovation
  • Proven leadership and strong collaboration, cooperation, and engagement skills
  • Encourages team to respectfully challenge problem areas and status quo, using experimentation to identify better solutions


  • Knowledge of Deltek, Oracle, Salesforce
  • Knowledge of emerging data concepts: advanced analytics, AI, ML
  • Knowledge of modern Big Data (Hadoop, Spark, Hive)
  • Microsoft Certification(s) – Data Platform and/or Analytics tracks (MCSA/MCSE, Database Fundamentals, Azure Database Administrator, Azure Data Fundamentals, Data Analyst Associate, Azure Data Engineering, Analyzing Data with PowerBI, Implementing an Azure Data Solution)
  • Experience with how to deal with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) & other forms of controlled data in online and offline scenarios (i.e. ITAR, DFAR, GDPR, etc.).


  • Complies with and enforces all applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures both at CAE Healthcare and wherever CAE Healthcare is represented (i.e., program site, trade show, etc.).
  • Performs all duties in compliance with and enforces all applicable legal and ethical standards including CAE’s Code of Business Conduct, CAE’s policies and procedures, country laws and regulations, Federal and States or Provincial Laws, policies, and standards.
  • Maintains security of all proprietary information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates.


  • Periodic travel to Sarasota Florida and/or Montreal Quebec may be required up to 10%
